Businesses are prepared for AWR changes

01 June 2011
As the changes to Agency Workers Regulations deadline approaches in October, awareness from businesses significantly increases.

The Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) found that employer awareness has increased to around 70% higher than 18 months ago.

The Agency Workers Directive will protect the rights of low paid agency workers once they have been in the role for over 12 weeks. Designed by the European Community, the legislation gives agency workers the same pay, terms and conditions of employment, maternity / paternity benefits as workers who are permanently employed

These conditions cover basic pay and benefits as well as holiday entitlement and childcare facilities, 42% of employers are still considering how to respond.

Despite the positive developments, REC's head of policy, Gillian Econopouly, told HR Magazine stated it is important for recruitment agencies to communicate with their clients about the changes.
