Companies report difficulty in recruitment and retention of skilled workers

01 November 2010
More than 65% of employers across 23 countries find difficulties to attract the right skilled professionals for the right jobs and 49% say it is increasingly hard to retain their high skilled workers. They experience a shortage of candidates with the critical skills required to keep the competitive edge in their respective industry.

A new report, the 2010 Global Management and Rewards Study prepared and published by Towers Watson, mentions that hiring companies experience difficulties to attract but also to retain the right candidates. In spite of the obvious shortage, these difficulties seem to apply only to highly skilled workers. According to Carole Hathaway from Towers Watson, the turmoil has had an impact on companies’ recruitment as candidates were more reluctant to move jobs given the unstable situation.
