Data Warehouse to Reach Most Significant Inflection Point in 2011

Data Warehousing will reach its most-significant inflection point in 2011, according to Gartner, an independent research company.

Gartner finds that the data warehouse is shifting to a new type of warehouse that addresses more of information assets and will introduce new information types as well as change detection.

In 2011, Gartner predicts data warehouse platforms will progress from an information store supporting traditional business intelligence (BI) to analytics infrastructure. This will support corporate performance management operational analytics, operational BI and other new applications, the research group reports.

Gartner research shows the market is shifting from storage and access to delivery and comprehension, which means context as depicted in metadata will become vital.

Gartner predicts that by 2013 data warehouse Database Management System (DBMS) vendors will combine their offerings to become more like an information management platform. The DBMS will become an execution platform, by supporting and performing data management and integration tasks.
 
Recently, Gartner predicted that data warehouse will remain a key element of the IT infrastructure. As demand for business intelligence (BI) and business analytics increases, flexible designs and strategies will become important for CIOs.
