Gap between excellent and bog-standard CIOs growing

09 December 2010

The research shows that IT organisations that have demonstrated an aptitude to differentiate their core capabilities during the economic crisis are currently finding themselves in a better status to deliver more value.

The research come to the conclusion that the increasing performance gap between high performers and other IT organisations should alert the underperformers to focus and improve their main capabilities – or let the risk to be marginalised by business leadership grow.

The report also mentions that the key differences between high and low performing IT organisations include:

-       High performing organisations have pushed web interactions 42% more with their customers and 93% more with their supplier.
-       IT department high performers are 44% more likely to recognise the strategic contribution of IT in customer satisfaction.
-       IT department high performers run regular measurements of the benefits obtained from strategic IT initiatives.
-       IT department high performers develop new IT applications rather than maintaining existing applications.
-       They also view workforce performance as a priority.

Accenture said the economic downturn has brought the best out of many CIOs and IT director roles with a shift towards an effective business partnership between IT and the business.
