Half of employees estimate their skills are underutilised

According to Randstad’s latest survey, around 50% of workers in Britain feel that their jobs are not making them utilise all their skills. However, 23% of employees stipulated they have upskilled during the last year and half as staffing levels froze throughout the country, with many organisations taking a cautious approach to the economic downturn.

In addition to that, 10% of British workers have taken up new roles over the past year and a half which do not make the most of their existing skill set. Employees feel therefore under-utilised.
The World of Work Report 2010 also showed significant differences between employers who ranked brand, culture and benefits packages as the main factors driving staff to jobs at their company, and employees who placed much more emphasis on the opportunity for career progression and reward. Workers say to be driven by training and development, a good career progression, flexible working times and remuneration as the most important factors.

Though a majority of employees say to be interested in developing their skills during their entire career, a minority were sure about what they would like to achieve over the next 4 to five years. In spite of this, 61% of British employees said that they would change jobs if the opportunity to develop themselves "in a faster or better way with another employer
