IT departments understaffed in the UK

14 December 2010

A new research from the firm CompTIA has revealed that a general concern was felt in the UK IT departments as they are experiencing difficulties to hire the right IT staff.

59% of companies surveyed in the UK declared they were clearly understaffed and a high number of the firms that are fully staffed said they had more IT vacancies to meet future expansions.

Almost 70% of companies said that finding the right IT candidates was challenging but retaining them is also another concern.

Top IT skills needed are mainly in IT project management, database administration and design, business analysis, technical support and cloud/SaaS.
Just a few points behind are network administration, virtualisation and IT security. Many IT managers also revealed that certification was as highly regarded as work experience when hiring.

However, less than a third of IT managers surveyed said that HR departments had a solid understanding of the IT jobs they wanted to fill. In terms of training, a majority of IT managers said they would gladly pay for IT training expenses.
