IT industry shows fastest growth in employer demand

14 February 2011
A report produced by the Recruitment and Employment Confederation and KPMG has found on average 60% of Engineering, Construction and executive/professional sectors have benefited from  the second and third highest levels of growth, this has also increased in contract jobs in this sector.

IT and Computing came in third place behind blue collar and engineering and construction. Demand for permanent candidates and contractors have increased across all sectors since January.

However, Bernard Brown, partner and head of business services at KPMG, sounded a note of caution.
He said: "It is too early to speculate whether these are the signs of a private sector-led recovery. With looming public sector job cuts, the VAT rise and slowing economic growth, the UK job market is likely to remain volatile over the coming months."

Recruitment consultants surveyed for the report said that within the IT sector, they found it difficult filling IT business analyst positions due to lack of skills.
