Job quality 'vital component' in employment

23 November 2009
Companies need assistance in ensuring that the jobs they provide are of a reasonable quality, new research has suggested.

The Work Foundation conducted a poll of employers, which discovered that nearly all considered job quality as a vital component of employment, while 41 per cent saw a role for recruiters to help with this agenda.

The British not-for-profit organisation's study also discovered that the main issues connected to employee effectiveness are fair pay, fulfilling and interesting positions, training and flexible working.

Stephen Bevan, managing director of The Work Foundation, explained that the public and private sector must work together to solve these problems.

He said: "Employers grasp the link between staff wellbeing and how it can affect productivity. What is missing is how to deliver this."

Last week, the Recruitment and Employment Confederation urged the next UK government to prioritise job creation and to build a skills policy that will reverse the economic climate.
