PCs market in decline in the UK

According to the latest market research conducted by the firm Gartner, PCs sales in Europe (Western) were at 19 million units sold in the 4th quarter of 2010. 
In the UK, a decrease of 2.7% in the 4th quarter of 2010 compared with that quarter in 2009. However, in 2010, UK PCs sales reached 13 million units, representing a 5.4% increase on 2009.
 
In 2010 Christmas sales had seen a decline of 2.5% in the last quarter of the year for the first time since 2006.
 
The global economic climate seemed to have slowed down PCs consumers who were also opting more for electronics goods such as tablets and smartphones.
 
In the final quarter of 2010, HP regained the market leading position (22.1%) whereas Acer and Dell saw their market share decrease in the western European markets.
