Permanent IT jobs on the rise, while contract roles suffer

08 December 2010
According to the latest report published by KPMG and Recruitment and Employment Confederation, IT jobs are evolving towards a higher demand for business analysts based on permanent roles when compared with last month when the demand was only for contract roles. Overall, IT jobs are experiencing a shift towards more permanent than freelance positions

The research says that in November 2010, in regards to permanent recruitment, IT staff were the category with the highest demand, behind nursing, medical, and care staff. This highlights an increase compared to November 2009, when IT jobs were in third position in terms of demand for permanent roles.

In terms of contract roles, however, IT and computing staff were the fourth most sought-after category of jobs in November 2010, whereas those roles were second in November 2009.

Other sorts of permanent roles have also registered a high demand. Amongst the list, we can identify jobs in IT development such as .net development, software development, but also roles in the area of digital marketing or IT sales. On the other hand, no skills shortages were identified for IT contractors.
