Scotland to get major IT jobs boost from Swiss firm

19 October 2011
The Scottish IT jobs market grew for the ninth month in a row, outperforming the UK as a whole reports Recruiter; bringing good news for job-seeking Scots.

Jobs seekers are to receive a huge boost after Swiss banking software company Avaloq is to create 500 new jobs over the next five years in Edinburgh.

The new base located in the Scottish capital, will offer 75 software engineering graduates job opportunities.

First minister Alex Salmond welcomed the announcement, saying: "This is testament to the high quality of Scottish education and enhances the strength of the city's international reputation for finance and IT services."

The graduates will begin an intensive six-month training programme immediately.

Avaloq chief executive Francisco Fernandez said the decision to set up its base in Edinburgh was because of its location as a financial hub.

"Edinburgh came top of our global search for several reasons, but one of the most important factors was due to the wealth of potential graduate talent available in Scotland and the number of universities offering excellent degrees in software engineering," he added.
